Brighton Table Tennis Club is RadioReverb’s 2024 Charity of the Year

12th January 2024

RadioReverb is delighted to announce that local charity Brighton Table Tennis Club is our Charity of the Year in 2024.

Each year we select a local good cause to support through the radio station and previous partners have been homeless charity Emmaus, youth music charity Audioactive, and Brighton Soup, which gives money to grassroots good causes across the city.

Once again we had a record number of applicants this year and after a difficult choice we chose Brighton Table Tennis Club.

Founded in 2007, Brighton Table Tennis Club started with just two worn out tables but with the strong belief that table tennis can be used as a powerful tool in engaging people of all ages and transforming lives.

It’s so much more than a sports club and takes the concept of community into another dimension altogether.

It involves a vast range of people and groups:  young people, prisoners, people with long term health conditions, asylum seekers, those with special needs, Paralympic champions and anyone in the community.  In particular, it prioritises people who would usually have the least access but would benefit most from playing and being part of the club’s community.

Club Director Tim Holtam says : “I firmly believe that sport can be used imaginatively to engage everyone if you give them the opportunity. It’s not about labels. Everyone is welcome as people who just want to play table tennis. Being the chosen charity will extend the welcome even further across the city. “

We look forward to an exciting year ahead!
