Vox Pop is a celebration of Brighton and Hove’s singing communities. Hosted by Hullabaloo Community Quire’s Musical Director Kirsty Martin, and sponsored by Hullabaloo, Vox Pop will dive into our glitteringly diverse and magnificent choral world, here in Brighton and Hove - and beyond!
At the last count, there are over 80 choirs, of different shapes, sizes and persuasions, in our vibrant city!
Kirsty and Hullabaloo will be exploring why people sing, through the history, science, anthropology and philosophy of community song. Featuring lots of guests from the choral world, including other community choirs, we’ll be listening to some fantastic a cappella music from all over the world, have some live singing in the studio - and lots more!
Hullabaloo is Brighton's longest established Natural Voice community choir. Throughout the years we have built a community where literally thousands of Brightonians have found, raised and joined their voices together. We’ve carved a collaborative niche in the alt folk world, working with artists that include Oysterband, The Moulettes, Lucy Ward, Robb Johnson, O’Hooley and Tidow, Grace Petrie and The Unthanks. We’ve performed huge song cycles on the stage of Brighton Dome and tiny benefit gigs all over the city, we’ve hosted two International Choral Festivals and attended over a dozen. Our new venture, Vox Pop Radio show, is the next intrepid adventure in our collective history. Bring it on!
